A Technique For Building Community PDF Print E-mail
Written by Robert Moskowitz
Friday, 04 April 2008

One person who had given up on getting a cohousing group started
decided to work on her new neighborhood. She made bags of apples and
attached an invitation to a pot luck at her house the following
Sunday. She put the bags on the door handles of her neighbor's houses.

And was very discouraged that no one sent rsvps.

But on Sunday, everyone showed up.

So I think the take away is don't start a conversation on a
theoretical level about how great cohousing is and why don't we do it
here. Many people don't want theories in their homes. They will,
however, respond to practical needs or meaningful neighborhood social
events.

CoHousing Time Line PDF Print E-mail
Written by Robert Moskowitz
Sunday, 11 February 2007
Feeling the need for SaMoCoHo to build a chronological list of activities to pursue in order to make progress toward living in cohousing, I've developed a list of about 100 items that seem like they need to get done.

Obviously, there's room to add more, subtract some, and change things around for specific situations. But at least this gives people some basic understanding of what's going to be involved.

You can see my list, below:

Enjoy!

And if you have any specific feedback on it to give me, please send it to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Thanks.

Keeping Prospective Members PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jessie Handforth Kome
Saturday, 18 November 2006
When Eno Commons was forming (before we had any buildings), we started having pancake breakfasts on most Saturdays and later, on community dinners on Tuesday nights and after meetings. Locations varied from the homes of members to restaurants to meeting spaces. Our outreach group, Eno Commons Central (aka Robert and Neal), tried very hard to get every prospective member to at least one meal during their visits to us.
